HAZARDOUS DUTY VACUUMS
AMETEK Floorcare & Specialty Motors has successfully passed the final audit for TUV / ATEX certification of its line of hazardous duty vacuum motors. The vacuum motors--P/N 122055-00 (114587) and 122056-00 (114589)--have been certified by TUV / ATEX to be produced at AMETEK’s manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico. TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc. conducted the audit and awarded the certification.
"Our customers have been requesting this certification to broaden their offerings into the European market," comments David Chippi, North American OEM Sales Manager for AMETEK Floorcare & Specialty Motors. "We also have begun the process of obtaining IEC EX certification, which will provide additional opportunities in countries like Australia and New Zealand. Japan, China and several Middle East countries also are evaluating the IEC EX standards and are likely to come on board. That will allow our hazardous duty vacuum motors to compete globally."
The motors are designed for use in commercial and industrial vacuum equipment which employ filters to remove dirt from the air stream before reaching the vacuum fans. While these vacuum motors are listed for use in hazardous locations, that in itself does not mean that the end product has hazardous duty characteristics. The design of the equipment must be evaluated by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. or other listing or regulatory agency to determine if the end product is suitable for use in hazardous locations.
The motors have been listed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Guide PTDR, File E-25653 for use in hazardous locations with respect to safety of operation as follows: Class I, Group D--Atmospheres containing gasoline, petroleum, naphtha, benzene, butane, propane, alcohols, acetone, benzol, lacquer solvent vapors, or natural gas. Class II, Group E--Atmospheres containing metal dust, including magnesium, aluminum, and their commercial alloys. Class II, Group F--Atmospheres containing carbon black, coal, or coke dust. Class II, Group G--Atmospheres containing flour, starch, or grain dusts.
AMETEK’s hazardous-duty motors are 7.5-inch diameter, 2-stage, and peripheral bypass vacuum motors. The single-phase, two-pole universal motor series is totally enclosed, externally fan-cooled. That motor is combined with a centrifugal blower to produce vacuum airflow characteristics suited for vacuum blower applications. The motors are available in both 120-and 230-volt AC models and incorporate class B insulation in the armature and field windings.
Our motors are rated for the following:
